The Community Use Project: National K-12 Cost Recovery Benchmark Study

A national effort to understand how schools manage, fund, and recover costs from community use — from gyms and auditoriums to classrooms and fields.

What This Project Is About

Schools open their doors to the community every day — for performances, practices, and public programs. But how are those costs being tracked, managed, and recovered?

The Community Use Project is a national study focused entirely on how K-12 schools handle cost recovery for community use of facilities. We’re gathering data from districts and campuses across the U.S. to build a clearer picture of what’s working, what’s not, and where opportunity lies.

Every voice matters — whether you’re a small private campus or one of the nation’s largest districts.
